228. Feed Your Skin Food—Not Poison
Trina Felber
Trina Felber was seven weeks pregnant when she glanced at the ingredient label on her “organic and natural” moisturizer. “There were carcinogens, endocrine disrupters, things like that. They were not just harming me but also the little one growing inside me at that time.” Having already experienced one miscarriage, she knew something had to change.
Trina Felber founded Primal Life Organics Paleo Skincare Company, where she has developed over 100 food-based skincare solutions to feed the skin. Trina is dedicated to helping others realize the dangers in everyday cosmetics and skincare, and spreading awareness for the importance of using plant-based products. Her products have been featured on TV stations all over the country and she is the best-selling author of “Beauty’s Dirty Secret.”
How Did You Start Using Your Talents?
Trina traces her interest in—and love for—human skin care to her days as a nurse treating burn victims. “I got to see what damage to the skin can look like, and how it affects the rest of the body,” she said. She also knew how skin, the largest human organ, absorbs substances into the body. With the frightening ingredient labels on her skin care products fresh on her mind, she began creating healthier skin care products in 2008.
The Most Impactful Turning Point?
As her knowledge of skin care grew, Trina began experimenting. “I like to call it bio-hacking. I am bio-hacking the way you feed your skin and the way your cells actually function, so that your skin and the rest of your body can function the way it was meant to, or function normally. As you absorb things through your skin, it gets absorbed into your vascular system first. It travels to your heart, lungs and brain. It may never make it to your liver. That’s why it’s so important to feed yourself real food from the outside as well the inside.”
The Most Powerful Lessons Learned?
“You are exposed to multitudes of toxins. If you just look at skin care products by themselves, take one product you’re using—a face wash, shampoo or moisturizer—and look at those ingredients. Then grab something else you’re using. Most people use between 10 and 12 products a day. The same harmful ingredient might be in every single product. So you’re getting bombarded in a multitude of ways just through your skin care every day.”
Steps to Success from Trina Felber
• Feed your body and your skin “real food” instead of processed items and chemicals.
• Practice quieting your brain, mind and body, and listen to yourself.
• Honor yourself, trust yourself and align yourself with others who do the same.
• Define what your passion is, and don’t give up on it; find a way to “get it out there.”
