17. ‘Coaching Is What I Love To Do’ - Sandy Vilas
Sandy Vilas
“Coaching is what I really love doing,” declares Sandy Vilas, former CEO of Coach U and co-founder and first co-president of the International Coaching Federation. “I love supporting entrepreneurs and professionals in dramatically increasing their business and enhancing the quality of their lives.” Currently he coaches CEOs and entrepreneurs from all over the world.
How Did You Start Using Your Talents?
“While leading workshops in 1989 for The Institute for Life Planning, I noticed whenever anyone would ask a question, I would respond with coaching. My own coach, Thomas Leonard, considered the founder of coaching, said, ‘You’re one of the best coaches I know. Why don’t you do it full time?’”
The Most Impactful Turning Point?
“The moment I decided to become a fulltime coach, I noticed this sense of peace and fulfillment washing over me. I was having so much fun. I was so passionate, so excited to use knowledge, wisdom and experience that I’d accumulated over 50 years to help others avoid the mistakes I’d made.”
The Most Powerful Lessons Learned?
“It’s my belief that having a coach allows you to see things about yourself that you can’t see on your own. I’ve had four different coaches over the course of the last 26 years. The coach I currently have is 83 years old, a former therapist turned coach.”
