87. A Founder of Business Breakthroughs Recalls the Power of “I’ll Show You!”
Mitch Russo
Mitch Russo co-founded Timeslips Corporation, the largest time tracking software company in the world. He pioneered the virtual organization with Chet Holmes and Tony Robbins, co-creating Business Breakthroughs International, with nearly 300 people and about $25M in sales. In 2013 he wrote the bestseller, “The Invisible Organization,” a guide for fully virtual organizations.
How Did You Start Using Your Talents?
When Mitch’s parents divorced in his teens, family finances took a downturn. He and his sister decided they had to be successful because they didn’t want to live that way. Mitch discovered a talent for creating companies. Assembling a network of collaborating consultants, a vision of a virtual company formed in his mind.
The Most Impactful Turning Point?
As an applications engineer right after college, Mitch noticed the sales reps were earning three times as much as he was. He asked his boss about going into sales and was told, “Great salesmen are born, not made.” Mitch thought, “I’ll show you,” and proceeded to build a $10 million company.
The Most Powerful Lessons Learned?
“If you can be happy and proud of who you are, then you are a success in this world. The way to get there is to find your path. Finding it comes down to eliminating the distractions of electronics we have in our lives. Read some great books. Figure out what resonates with you, and then just follow that passion.”
