171. Inspiring a Generation of Environmental Change-Makers
Marjorie Alexander
Marjorie Alexander is an environmental activist, media producer and host of the podcast, A Sustainable Mind. After 10 years in film production she decided to make the work she did in the world match the passion and values she practiced in her personal life. She seeks to inspire a new generation of environmental change-makers.
How Did You Start Using Your Talents?
After college, with a dual major in anthropology and film studies, Marjorie honed her skills on 175 films, TV shows, commercials and music videos. But when family and friends asked, “Have you done anything I might have seen,” her answer was always, “No.” She decided it was time to think of her legacy.
The Most Impactful Turning Point?
At the funeral of a charismatic high school friend (“Barack Obama reminds me of him”), the huge crowd that came to honor him made Marjorie ask herself if her life would have an impact on the world. “I literally changed overnight. After that my life has been completely different.”
The Most Powerful Lessons Learned?
In a crucial reassessment of her life, Margie focused on the values she held most deeply. “The answer was to do my part protecting environmental sustainability. It’s a fundamental issue, the building block on which everything else is built.” Her podcast, A Sustainable Mind, is reaching a steadily growing audience of young environmental change-makers.
