How Did You Start Using Your Talents?
“The fact is, I defaulted into education. As early as age 3, I wanted to be a pediatrician. I remember carrying around a cabbage patch doll, diagnosing her with chicken pox, strep throat, etc. In college I realized I couldn’t cure everybody. Now in education, I realize I can’t stand to see us fail kids!”
The Most Impactful Turning Point?
A pivotal point was deciding to become credentialed to go into administration. “When I earned my master’s I went ahead and earned certification to be a principal. As a classroom teacher, I thought, ‘This is what I should be doing.’ But a principal position opened up, bringing me many new opportunities to influence education.”
The Most Powerful Lessons Learned?
“I was so lucky to have had great teachers and role models. People go into education for two reasons: they had poor teachers and poor counselors, or they had excellent, amazing teachers. Not a lot of people go into education who had mediocre teachers.”
