57. A Life Neither Boring Nor Ordinary
Keith Freund
Keith Freund is a former audio engineer turned web entrepreneur who hates to be bored. His company, Fix Your Mix, has been providing audio mixing and mastering services over the internet since 2008. Fix Your Mix is not a recording studio, but manages engineers who perform these services remotely.
How Did You Start Using Your Talents?
An early sign of independence came at 14 when Keith passed up an invitation to a middle school graduation pool party and stayed home to teach himself to play guitar. Soon he bought a 4-track recorder with a friend and began recording his own songs. “That sparked my interest in audio.”
The Most Impactful Turning Point?
While working on an audio engineering internship at one of the largest studios in the world, Keith talked candidly with engineers who worked there. Many had taken jobs with hopes of playing music but never found the time. Few were happy. This bolstered Keith’s desire to finish earning his college degree.
The Most Powerful Lessons Learned?
“I’m willing to live with financial stress to do what I love to do,” Keith says. “I hate being bored more than anything else. Security is good, but I’m more afraid of being ordinary.” Now that he’s doing what he loves, he adds, “I haven’t been bored for many years.”
