16. Art That Grows
Jennifer J L Jones
Jennifer J L Jones is an American Artist living and painting in Atlanta, Georgia. She’s been at it 16 years full time, loving it all. A graduate of the prestigious School of The Art Institute of Chicago, her work is represented in galleries and included in public and private collections worldwide.
How Did You Start Using Your Talents?
She has known she wanted to be a painter since childhood. The drive always has been very strong. “It was and is the only thing in my life I never questioned or doubted,” she recalls. “It’s something I’m really grateful for because it’s what pushes me ahead and overcomes fear.
The Most Impactful Turning Point?
“Hearing from random people after the disaster of 9/11 that they had seen my artwork and it made them feel better. That was a huge turning point! I realized my art had a healing effect on other people, not just on me. I felt I was starting to contribute something.”
The Most Powerful Lessons Learned?
In Chicago, before her painting paid the bills—while working a part-time job that expanded to full time—she began using sick days to stay home and paint all day. Summoning the courage to quit the job, she never looked back. Her former boss remains a friend and fan.
