39. Jeff Hennessy’s Willingness to Sacrifice Made Web Series Whitey a Reality
Jeff Hennessy
Jeff Hennessy wrote, directs, produces and acts in Whitey, a web series based on the story of Whitey Bulger, the infamous Boston gangster caught in Santa Monica, California, after a 16-year run. Jeff says a willingness to sacrifice learned early in his life made the project a reality.
How Did You Start Using Your Talents?
Jeff started writing in college and realized it, along with acting, were his passions. He already knew he was competitive and willing to suffer, having qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team in 1984 in Taekwondo. Disillusioned with acting classes, he grabbed the Whitey Bulger story and created his own opportunity.
The Most Impactful Turning Point?
At 15, the “silver spoon” son of a prosperous family in Wellesley, MA, Jeff’s life turned upside down in 1971 when both parents died in a plane crash. He had to dig deep inside for determination to carry on. He learned the value of sacrifice and persistence in reaching his goals.
The Most Powerful Lessons Learned?
“Because of my life experiences, I dare to suffer, a lot. Many are not willing to do that. I didn’t have that luxury. I had to face tragedy and survival early—training for the Olympic team, fighting—I’m willing to make the sacrifices other people aren’t. That translates into success.”
