94. Podcasting a Natural Fit for Lifelong Radio Broadcaster
Jason Zinzilieta
Jason Zinzilieta has been in broadcasting in some fashion for nearly 30 years. He’s the general manager of two radio stations, KYCA-AM and KAHM-FM, in Prescott, AZ. He also hosts The Victorious Writer Daily Podcast, and writes The Victorious Writer Blog at www.thevictoriouswriter.com. Jason is 45 years old, married, with two children.
How Did You Start Using Your Talents?
A friend’s father owned a radio station in a town of 7,000 in southern Illinois. At 16, Jason’s friend asked if he would like to work at the station. He did well enough to land a radio job on his own in Arizona at 17 and has been in radio ever since.
The Most Impactful Turning Point?
Becoming an on-air reporter and the announcer for his high school basketball team—in a town where basketball was king—was crucial in confirming Jason’s love of broadcasting and public speaking. When his family moved to Arizona, he was confident enough to find radio work and basketball announcing again.
The Most Powerful Lessons Learned?
In radio, developing a podcast, blogging and life in general, Jason has been guided by “three simple words: Be not afraid. When we take chances, even if we fail, it does not necessarily mean our complete downfall. Most people don’t understand the talents they do have, and they DO have a lot.”
